As
you will learn as you view our site, new friends can come to you with
all different kinds of backgrounds and situations. Shelters do all they
can. You can do more. Even if you can't adopt from your shelter, for one
reason or another, you can always donate items to help. They can always
use things like:
• old newspapers
• kitty litter & kitten food
• dog food
• cleaning supplies
• garbage bags
• collars & leashes
Don't forget the people
who work there, either! They can use the basics like:
• toilet paper
• coffee & filters
• paper towels
• pens & pencils
• disposable cups
A few important notes:
• Never give a pet
as a gift on the holidays.
•
Do not bring home a animal you have not learned about first. Read about
the breed so you know if they will blend in well in your household.
•
If you have other pets, try
to take them with you when you adopt. This way, you have the whole
family's approval.
•
Don't run out and buy the
cool critter you see in the movies for your family before you know what
that breed/animal is really like. Just because the dog is cool in
the movies, or the bird talks up a storm does not mean the one
you get will be the same.
•
Always spay or neuter
your pet! Bob Barker says so!

YOU MIGHT ASK - DOES IT
REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
You think to yourself, I only have
just one cat or maybe just one dog, and they only have one litter
once or twice a year. The one time surgery expense might seem a
lot now, but if you weigh in all the factors - it is, without a
doubt, the kindest thing you can do for all the unwanted litters
that are euthanized in shelters today. In addition, it is far
healthier for your companion animal. Even if you are lucky enough
to find homes for that litter of kittens or puppies - just look at
the figures below and remember how many offspring are born from
that one litter. Share this information with other animal lovers -
most people have no idea how many offspring are born and how many
are euthanized. |
|
DID YOU KNOW???
- 1 female cat & her offspring could produce 420,000 kittens in
7 years
- 1 female dog & her offspring could produce 67,000 puppies in 6
years
- 6 million cats, kittens, dogs & puppies are euthanized each
year
Thousands
of unwanted animals are abandoned each year & do not survive.
(Information provided from the
Humane Society of the United States)
The shelters, very sadly, has the heartbreaking
task of euthanizing an average of 75 cats and dogs each month. We
want to take this time to remember all those animals that have lost
their lives because there are not enough homes for them all - and
the importance of spaying and neutering.

Our home has always participated in the spay/neuter
program. If you truly love your pets, your home will, too.
