Tara is truly a rescue bird,
and she has quite a interesting story! Allow me to
tell you about it...
It was pretty brisk
out - cold, snowy, and windy when my Dad went for his daily walk. Thing
were going pretty well, despite the breezy weather. As he was walking
along, he though he saw a pigeon or a morning dove sitting in the middle
of the road. (Our wild morning doves around here are pretty lazy
creatures. You could almost drop a brick right next to them and they
probably wouldn't so much as blink.) He kept watching this "morning
dove" as he got closer, and closer. It just continued to sit there. Once
he was close enough, he realized this was no morning dove! He put his
hand down, and she walked right up into it. She was freezing, and
probably wouldn't have lasted much longer out there in the weather.
So, Dad called me up,
and told me he was coming over...with a bird. From what he told me on
the phone, I thought he had walked up on a cockatoo! He said she was
big, had one of those feathers that stick up on her head and she is
white. It didn't dawn on me, until I saw her, that we had always had
parakeets when my sister and I were growing up, so in comparison to
them, she was a big bird. In reality, she is much larger than her kind
that you can find in most pet stores. Her feathers are also much more
impressive in length.
Have you figured it
out yet? What kind of bird is Tara? She is a cocktail, of course!
She is a very tame
girl. She doesn't perch on your finger and if she's anywhere near her
cage, she will go on and on hissing at you like she is going to eat you
alive! However, when you pick her up, the most you get is a beak so soft,
you'd think it was made out of her feathers.
She loves to be out
around people! When you walk into the room, she will chirp out to you.
She also knows she a pretty bird, and it's her favorite thing to tell
you.
When she is out of her
cage, she will try to get as close to you as she possibly can...even if
that means a hasty jog across the living room and with her tiny little
feet....that's a feat in it's self, but she always finds her person. She
will climb up the furniture and cuddle into you. She is a real dear. She
is so fortunate that day my Dad found her! She's a little feathered
treasure.
